The Merton Community School District board approved a $25,104.52 expenditure to purchase two new floor scrubbers at its Sept. 29 meeting.
District maintenance staff presented the proposal, explaining the machines are on the district’s 10‑year facility plan and that new versions use advanced onboard batteries and chargers that eliminate the need for distilled water and reduce CO2 risks associated with older battery systems. The presenter said the existing scrubbers retain resale value and the district would attempt to sell them through Wisconsin Surplus to offset costs.
A board member moved to approve the purchase and a colleague seconded. The chair called for and received an all‑in‑favor voice vote; the motion passed. The presenter said the new units are expected to last eight to 10 years and cited improved safety and maintenance features as motivations for proceeding now.
At the same meeting the board approved the consent agenda, which included acceptance of the resignation of Peggy Berblewski (about three years of service) and acknowledgement of PTO donations totaling $1,893.88 to be divided among building principals as discretionary funds.
