Staff told the committee on July 14 that Charleston submitted three projects for Charleston County Transportation Committee (CTC) funding this cycle: roughly 1,000 feet of sidewalk on Parkdale Drive, about 1,000 feet on Braxton Avenue, and approximately 1,000 feet of sidewalk on Folly Road from Central Park to Harborview Road.
Mathis, who represents the city on the CTC panel, said the projects are drawn from the city's sidewalk priority list and that the Folly Road segment could be coordinated with a separate Folly Road road-safety audit. “We typically get one project approved per year,” staff said, describing the longstanding local pattern of CTC funding allocations.
The committee discussed how the gas tax/CTC funds flow through state channels and are allocated by county before being distributed to municipalities; staff and a committee member noted the county distribution reduces the local share after state processing.
No formal committee action was taken; staff will continue to monitor the county committee’s selections and coordinate with the road-safety audit where appropriate.
