During the public-comment period on July 7 Rob Christie asked the Select Board for additional information about the Lancaster Motel project beyond local press coverage. Christie said the project had been before the Zoning Board and was scheduled to go to the Planning Board.
Christie reported hearing conflicting information — that the property was “not sold as a motel” and that a conversion was proposed. He said some people had described the proposal as conversion to affordable housing while others had called it market-rate housing. Alan Savage asked whether a density variance had been granted. Selectman Kathy-Jean Lavoie confirmed the Zoning Board granted a variance to increase the allowable units from 30 to 36.
Board members and the public discussed potential parking issues but the minutes do not record a formal motion or board decision about the project; the matter is expected to proceed to the Planning Board for further review.
