The resolution, read aloud by the presiding officer, cited Rekovich's service as a Willowick councilman and mayor before becoming Lake County's 81st commissioner and noted his focus on senior services, economic development, workforce growth and infrastructure.
A commissioner who spoke in support of the resolution said, "There aren't words to fully describe the contribution that our friend and our colleague, our commissioner, and our president, Richard Rekovich, made to this community." The speaker said Rekovich's leadership and dedication set an example for future public servants.
Another commissioner described accepting a certificate of appreciation on Rekovich's behalf and said the loss has been a difficult transition for colleagues who continue his work. A family member thanked the commissioners for their support and for honoring Rekovich, saying the family appreciated the recognition.
The resolution was moved, seconded and approved by roll call. The board noted Rekovich's name will remain on the Key to Lake County placard as a permanent recognition of his service.
With the resolution adopted, the board proceeded to routine business and committee items on the agenda.
