Appling County appoints interim probate clerk, names associate probate judge and approves pay; elections vacancy filled

The Appling County Board of Commissioners addressed a string of personnel and election appointments during its July 19 session.
Board members recorded that Probate Judge Dianne Hallman had resigned; because the county does not have an associate probate judge in place, Chief Clerk Gretchen Bailey will assume the probate office immediately and serve until the November election. In executive session, the board considered personnel matters and then returned to public meeting to take action.
The board appointed Terry Turner as Associate Judge for Probate Court on a motion by Commissioner Doug Harris, second by Commissioner Theodore Wilkerson, and approved a monthly salary of $4,000 for the role. The board also voted to pay former Probate Judge Dianne Hallman through the end of the month, consistent with her previous resignation date.
Separately, on a motion by Commissioner Charlie Leggett, second by Commissioner Daryl Edwards, the board unanimously appointed Danny Causey to fill a vacancy on the Appling County Board of Elections. The board also designated Commissioner Doug Harris as the county voting delegate at the ACCG Legislative Leadership Conference; that designation passed with Commissioner Harris abstaining from the vote.
