City proposes changing bulky-item pickup tags to $10 per item, raises tire disposal fee

Assistant City Manager Lori Phelps told the council the city is proposing two changes to its bulky-item pickup program: lowering the sticker structure to $10 per item (limit still four items) instead of a $20 tag that covers up to four items, and increasing the tire-disposal fee from $3 to $5 because the current $3 charge does not cover disposal costs.
"Currently, a $20 tag will get you 4 items picked up... we're proposing to change the tags to $10 per item with still a limit of 4 items," Phelps said. She explained the $3 tire fee does not cover the city's disposal costs and a $5 fee would better offset those costs.
A council member moved the proposal to the May 18 voting session; the motion was seconded and carried. The council did not adopt the ordinance on May 4; the matter will return for a formal vote.
