Bluffton planning panel approves 10 street names for Okeetee Bluffs development

The Town of Bluffton Planning Commission voted Sept. 25 to approve 10 proposed street names for the Okeetee Bluffs development.
Planner Angie Gastrolin told commissioners the request was submitted by Willie Powell on behalf of Adrian Danmiller, owner of Okeetee Bluffs LLC, and that the preliminary development plan — consisting of six multifamily buildings, four garage buildings, a clubhouse and associated infrastructure — was approved Dec. 20, 2023. She said staff had reviewed the street-naming application and found it met the applicable criteria in the town's Unified Development Ordinance.
Gastrolin read the list of proposed names: Cormorant Way; Kite Drive; Grebe Street; Razorbill Drive; Tufted Duck Drive; Chimney Swift Lane; Trumpeter Swan Lane; Cinnamon Teal Road; Kittiwake Lane; and Scarlet Ibis Way. When a commissioner raised a concern about the pronunciation and public legibility of “Grebe Street,” Gastrolin said the names were vetted by Beaufort County and the county GIS department and that the list functions as a bank of names the applicant may use.
A commissioner moved to approve the staff-recommended street names and the motion was seconded. The commission voted in favor with no recorded opposition and closed the item.
The commission’s action is a recommendation on the naming application and, per staff, follows the authority granted under the town’s Unified Development Ordinance. The applicant may implement the approved names as the development proceeds and in coordination with county addressing/GIS as needed.
