Reverend Raymond Privet chosen board chair; William Sherwood Ellis named vice chair

The Edgecombe County Board of Education elected Reverend Raymond Privet as board chair and William Sherwood Ellis as vice chair at its July 13, 2026 reorganization meeting.
Reverend Raymond Privet was nominated from the floor and, after ballots were counted publicly, the result was announced as “6 to 1” in favor of Privet, according to the board’s announcement. The board then administered the oath of office to Privet and to William Sherwood Ellis, who was chosen as vice chair.
Superintendent Dr. Bridal explained the reorganization process and led the public balloting procedure, saying board policy provides for signed written ballots and a public count. After the votes were tallied, the board sworn both officers into their respective roles.
The elected officers will serve one-year terms under the board’s annual reorganization practice. The new chair said only brief remarks during the oath ceremony; the board moved next to routine business.
The board did not record any roll-call vote beyond the chair and vice chair tallies; subsequent procedural motions were carried by voice vote.
