Montrose County approves two right-of-way purchases for Kinnikinn Road project

Public Works staff recommended purchasing a 4.07-acre parcel from the Patch family for $15,466, saying the acquisition would support construction and future operation of the redesigned road. "It's my recommendation that we go ahead with this purchase of the properties," Public Works (Nichols) told the board. The commission approved the acquisition by motion (Resolution 54-2024).
The board then approved a separate acquisition of 10.19 acres from Zachary S. Proc and Jennifer D. Proc for $43,308 to clear right-of-way for the same project (Resolution 55-2024). Staff told commissioners these purchases would allow the county to proceed with design elements that account for local slopes and drainage.
Commissioners discussed doing the two resolutions separately to keep the record clear; both motions were seconded and carried on an oral 'aye' vote. The chair and commissioners thanked staff for the ongoing design work and noted that construction timing and phasing will be determined as costs and designs are finalized.
The county’s next steps include completing final design, confirming acquisition paperwork and coordinating construction planning; exact construction timelines and funding sources were not specified at the meeting.
