Representatives from Bonneville Power and Wells Rural Electric presented a no-cost energy audit of Carlin’s municipal buildings and outlined potential annual savings from heat-pump installations and LED lighting upgrades.
Dick Stroh summarized building-specific savings, citing examples including roughly $5,000 per year for the new fire station with a water-based heat-pump system and about $2,800 per year for the municipal court building. He said the senior center could save roughly $1,900 per year with a heat pump and that many smaller buildings would see modest annual savings from LED upgrades. Stroh also noted new heat-pump technology can heat water to higher temperatures and that local geothermal resources might support district heating in the long term.
Jeff Cromie of Wells Rural Electric said the audit was provided at no cost and that the utility can offer incentives if the city pursues lighting or heat pump projects. He also clarified that many rebates are designed to reward electric energy savings; income-qualified programs may cover 100% of certain installations for electric-heated homes, but fuel-switch incentives do not always apply where gas remains the primary heat source. The presentation was informational and no council action was taken.
