Board begins planning for countywide utility/sewer district to coordinate sewer solutions and grant pursuit

The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors discussed the early steps to create a countywide utility or "super" sewer district intended to coordinate sewer planning, pursue grants and centralize contracting.
The board attorney and staff described a two-tiered idea: a wholesale, umbrella authority to negotiate contracts and coordinate multiple retail sewer/water providers across the county. "What we're talking about creating is a big umbrella so that everything else can operate under those and we can come up with some regulations and ordinances and be able to create grant programs to go after money and come up with some solutions for our sewer issues," the board attorney said.

Supervisors emphasized the need for technical expertise (engineers) among appointees and anticipated grant opportunities at the federal level.
