Assistant City Manager Lori Phelps told the Poplar Bluff City Council she recommends reappointing Municipal Court Judge Ralph Ennis to a two-year term, citing the citys code that allows two-year appointments. The council moved the item to the Feb. 17 voting session for formal action.
Phelps said the city historically has appointed municipal judges for two-year terms and that she recommends returning to that schedule. A resident who spoke during the meeting said of Judge Ennis, "I've been in judge Ennis' court for some of the proceedings, and I was really impressed with the way they went... I like the way you treat the people, the defendants, and I'd like to see that continue," offering explicit support for reappointment.
A council member made a motion to place the reappointment on the Feb. 17 voting session and a colleague seconded it; the motion carried by voice vote. No formal vote reappointing Judge Ennis took place at this meeting.
The reappointment will be considered at the council's Feb. 17 voting session, where the council will record a formal vote and any additional public comment.
