Gonzales council adopts 2026 millage resolution and approves multiple city contracts

The Gonzales City Council on July 13 adopted the resolution to levy the 2026 property tax millage rates for property within the city and approved a series of related contracts and resolutions.

At the meeting clerk-announced agenda item No. 14, the council voted to levy the 2026 millage rates subject to the usual publication and statutory steps. Council members recorded a roll-call vote approving the resolution. The council also voted to renew its contract with South Central Planning and Development Commission to continue providing planning and zoning services; staff noted the renewal is essentially the same scope as last year with a prorated adjustment.

On capital projects, the council approved the notice of award for the Our Lady Lake Connector Road project to Triton Construction LLC as the low bidder for $1,466,153, subject to legal review. Because the road crosses a Gulf South Pipeline right-of-way, the council also authorized the mayor to execute a letter of no objection from Gulf South Pipeline Company LLC to permit the crossing. Council members discussed routing the award and the need for legal review before final contract execution.

The council approved two Freeland Jackson Center change orders: Change Order No. 5 to add bleacher capacity for $5,006 and Change Order No. 6 to add 113 calendar days and increase the contract by $63,009.55 to reflect delays related to Entergy coordination. Staff indicated some delay costs were negotiated and allocation between the city and Entergy had been discussed.

Motions were recorded by roll call for each action; several contract items were deferred earlier in the meeting pending legal review.
