Berkley Agricultural Commission earmarks plaque proceeds for land purchases, approves $278.19 reimbursement

The Berkley Agricultural Commission voted June 4 to deposit proceeds from plaque sales into a newly opened high-interest savings account to be used for future land purchases or maintaining donated land, a move the commission framed as a way to support possible community garden space.

Lisa Tetreault, acting as chair, proposed setting plaque funds aside for land acquisition or maintenance, and Angela Young, clerk, moved to open the savings account with the stipulation that those funds be used for purchasing land or maintaining donated land. Aaron Fernandes seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

The commission also approved a reimbursement of $278.19 for printing costs associated with a pumpkin seed distribution. Angela Young moved the reimbursement; Mike Moreau seconded. Bryan (from Friends of Ag Comm) was assigned to write the check and deliver it to Ed Harmon, who was listed on the minutes as the payee for the reimbursement.

Other housekeeping actions included the approval of the May 7, 2026 meeting minutes (motion by Angela Young, seconded by Aaron Fernandes; unanimous), updates to order forms (adding a 20-character limit box for plaque inscriptions and a ‘check payable to’ field), and a plan to create a T-shirt order form. Bryan agreed to assist with the commission’s webpage.

A planned fundraising meat raffle was deferred to the next meeting because the member who typically oversees that item, Harry Harmon, was not present. The minutes also record that Lisa Tetreault made a donation to the Agricultural Commission to cover printing costs.

With no further discussion, Angela Young moved to adjourn the meeting at 6:48 p.m.; the motion carried. The commission listed members present as Lisa Tetreault, Angela Young, Mike Moreau, Aaron Fernandes, Mark Wade and Bryan (Friends of Ag Comm); Ed Harmon and Harry Harmon were noted as not present.
