The Pinellas County School Board unanimously approved the recommended 2027–28 school calendars and special observance days on July 14.
Chief of Human Resources Michael Vigu summarized work by the calendar committee — which included students, parents, teachers, administrators, union representatives, district staff and community partners — and said the group met May 18 and June 8 to craft drafts for board review. The committee’s materials included instructional-minute alignment and multiple staff-calendar options (10‑month teacher calendar, 11.5‑month staff calendar) and recommended observance days.
Vigu highlighted planning details, noting that committee materials discussed the earliest allowable student start date (August 10) in line with state guidelines; at the meeting staff also referenced the district’s adopted timeline for the coming year and communications to families. The board approved the calendar by motion, 7–0, and staff said they will begin communications with school communities and post calendar materials on the district website.
Board members asked few questions in the meeting, and staff emphasized that if the calendar is approved, schools will receive communication materials and links on the district back-to-school webpage.
