Cimarron council approves NMDOT MAP grant resolution, UNM contract amendment and hears FY26 budget requests

The Village of Cimarron voted March 18 to approve a resolution to pursue transportation grant funding and to authorize an amendment to a professional services agreement with the University of New Mexico.
Mayor Pro Tem Valorie Garcia moved to approve Resolution 2025-012 to apply for the NMDOT MAP second-phase grant related to Washington Crossings; Councilor Ernie LeDoux seconded and the resolution passed 4-0. Councilor Colin Tawney then moved to approve UNM Amendment 3 to the village’s professional services agreement; Mayor Pro Tem Garcia seconded and that motion also passed 4-0.
Administrator Shawn Jeffrey presented FY26 budget requests including two items she asked the council to consider: $100,000 for lighting and/or public restrooms at the baseball park and $100,000 as matching funds for a road project. She also asked for guidance on a cost-of-living adjustment. The minutes record that the Governing Body discussed percentages and asked staff to include a 5% COLA — the same as last year — in FY26 budget planning; the minutes do not record a formal budget adoption at this meeting.
Councilor Ernie LeDoux said he would like to attend the wastewater-plant preconstruction meeting scheduled for March 28, 2025. Mayor Eloy Brazil reported that NM Bank & Trust may open a branch in Cimarron and will schedule a public meeting, and that Matthew Gonzales is continuing to pursue a biomass project in town.
Financial approvals on routine items were also recorded: the council approved the check register for Feb. 4–Mar. 14, 2025 and accepted an invoice from NM Local Government Law Firm for $135.61, each by voice vote 4-0.
