TECCA board: nearly 3,000 enrolled as DESE extends academic condition through 2029

TEC Connections Academy Commonwealth Virtual School (TECCA) reported strong enrollment and mixed renewal findings at its May 6, 2026 board meeting. Superintendent Patrick Lattuca said TECCA has “2,986 students currently enrolled with a waiting list of over 900,” and that roughly 2,500 students are ready to return next year.

Lattuca reviewed DESE and BESE materials in the board packet, including a commissioner letter approving an address change and the renewal report that rated TECCA “meets” in four areas and “partially meets” in three. He told trustees the district’s overall classification for student performance remains “Requiring Assistance.” “One condition related to financial oversight was removed and one condition related to academic achievement was extended until December, 2029,” Lattuca said.

Board members were shown a list of sending districts that have imposed 1% attendance restrictions on Commonwealth virtual schools; Lattuca identified three new districts — Northbridge (1%), Easthampton (1%) and Gill–Montague (1.25%) — bringing the total to 37 districts with restrictions noted in the packet.

Lattuca also announced the special education tier focus monitoring has been cleared, thanking special education staff and leadership for the work that led to that resolution. He said a new MassCA website is in progress ahead of the school’s July 1 name change.

The board took no formal action on the renewal materials during the meeting; the session was a staff report and discussion of the findings and next steps.
