SPRING GROVE, Minn. — The Spring Grove City Council voted Dec. 30 to direct the city attorney to draft a lease for the Syttende Mai Haus and Log Cabin in cooperation with the Spring Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and the Syttende Mai Committee.
City Attorney Greg Scheiber said insurance and utility costs should be factored into any lease and be explicitly addressed in lease language. Council Member Trent Turner moved that the city attorney prepare a lease and work the details with City Administrator Jana Elton and Chamber President Laura Kubes; the motion was seconded by Council Member Michael Hagen and carried unanimously.
The motion instructs the city attorney to draft formal lease documents and coordinate final details with city staff and the chamber's leadership. Chamber President Laura Kubes and other guests were present for the discussion but did not propose alternate language on the record. The council did not adopt final lease terms at the special meeting; the motion was to have the attorney prepare the lease for later review and approval.
Clerk/Administrator Jana Elton will add remaining matters, including a separate request about cannabis businesses, to the council's January regular meeting agenda for additional consideration. The council adjourned at 2:49 p.m.
