Spring Grove accepts fire relief bylaws update and $1.5 million in congressional funding for new fire hall

The Spring Grove City Council on Nov. 18 approved updates to the Spring Grove Firemen Relief Association bylaws and heard details about major funding toward a new fire hall.
Clerk Jana Elton said the bylaws were updated to add language related to charitable gambling as part of a state-mandated compliance checklist. Council Member Trent Turner moved to approve the updated bylaws; Council Member Michael Hagen seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Elton also reported that the Spring Grove Fire Department was awarded $1.5 million in congressional directed spending toward construction of a new fire hall, with an estimated total project cost of about $3 million. Elton said meetings will begin with builders this week to obtain detailed cost estimates, which staff will provide to the city’s financial advisor to finalize plans for the required 25% city match.
Elton additionally notified the council that the department received a $4,000 Arlin Falck grant to buy four safety vests and 27 pairs of fire gloves. Council took no further action on the funding at the Nov. 18 meeting other than approving the bylaws and directing staff to move forward with project planning steps.
