Council directs termination of CEDA contract, asks staff to secure grant records

The Spring Grove City Council on Sept. 16 directed Administrator Jana Elton to draft a letter terminating the city’s contract with the Community Economic Development Agency (CEDA), effective at the end of October. Council Member Trent Turner moved the directive, and the motion carried unanimously.
Council members asked that any grants CEDA had applied for on the city’s behalf be transferred to city control. Elton said she believed related information should be turned over to the city. Mayor Bryan Wilhelmson said CEDA should finish tasks already directed to them but that the city may engage outside help; the EDA has $10,000 budgeted to hire outside expertise for grant writing or other tasks.
Guest Saundra Solum asked whether the City Administrator would serve in an interim EDA director role; Elton said she already handles much of the related work and that compensation arrangements for additional duties had not been finalized.
The council did not vote on a replacement director at the meeting and asked staff to return with specifics if more city funding or contracting is required.
