The Williston Board on May 12 approved sale by public bid of a surplus 1989 American General HMMWV brush truck to Kyle Ostrand for a high bid of $16,000. Fire Chief Corey Johnson said four bids were received and that Ostrand intends to transfer the vehicle to Custer County, Nebraska, for use by rural fire departments. The board allowed the emergency lighting and siren to remain on the vehicle but required removal of the SIRN radio because it is incompatible with operations in Nebraska.
Chief Johnson noted the city included terms to require removal of emergency equipment if the winning bidder was not part of a fire or emergency response agency; Ostrand requested the lights and siren remain for intended emergency use and the board accommodated that request while requiring removal of the radio. The motion to approve the sale passed unanimously (Bekkedahl, Siemieniewski, Bervig, Gjovig, Klug voting aye).
No other conditions or ongoing costs were recorded in the meeting minutes; staff will complete required transfer paperwork per city procedures.
