Board approves routine claims, surplus sales, vehicle decommissioning and a sidewalk/parking closure for painting

At its meeting, the Mishawaka Board of Public Works and Safety approved a set of routine administrative items and permits.

An agency representative reported the Mishawaka Police Department requested authorization to decommission four vehicles (two 2016 Ford Interceptors and two 2017 Ford Interceptors) for sale or auction due to mechanical issues and end of practical service; the board approved the request by voice vote.

Central Services requested authorization to advertise and sell seven surplus tools through the city's GovDeals auction process. The items listed included a DeWalt Sawzall, a welder soldering gun, a Milwaukee Sawzall, a Milwaukee rotary hammer, a Milwaukee Power Snake, a Skilsaw circular saw and a Milwaukee sander; the board approved the surplus sale request subject to the city's surplus property procedures.

The board approved two claims dockets on the record: a smaller docket of $6,641.32 and a larger docket of $1,449,558.57. Both approvals were moved and carried by voice vote; the transcript does not include a line-by-line breakdown of the claims.

Under new business, the board considered a request from Legacy Peony to close sidewalks and parking spaces on Hill Street, Ironworks Avenue and Front Street (including the block between Mill Street and Hill Street) for painting. The work was described as starting the coming Monday and continuing through Sept. 5 with hours 7 a.m.–6 p.m., Monday–Saturday. The chair moved approval subject to any engineering requirements; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
