Amanda Snyder, representing the county health department, gave an update on June services and several grants and programs. She reported 168 client appointments in June and described prevention and outreach activities including car-seat classes in partnership with Safe Kids Worldwide, the mammogram coach visit with a limited number of appointment slots, burn-kit distribution to fair vendors, and planned mosquito and tick education during fair week.
Snyder summarized grant awards and budgets for the department. She said the department received a John and Helen Barnes Community Grant to provide postpartum meals to WIC clients and reported the program has distributed 18 meals and has funds remaining to provide 12 more; the transcript includes an implausible numeric figure for the grant amount, so the exact award amount is not specified here. The department also received a $2,000 Frontier Farm Bridger grant for the nutrition nook and reported spending of $492.61 on nutrition-nook items that produced 24 meal bags. Snyder reported forthcoming state aid-to-local formula numbers and listed anticipated grant amounts for the aid year: $17,816 for state formula grants, $13,005.89 for public health emergency preparedness, $8,210 for maternal and child health, and $3,785 for an immunization action plan, for a total the presenter stated as $43,400.
Snyder said she will present the department’s 2026–27 WIC budget request (she requested $123,219.37) to the commission at the next meeting and noted remaining workforce development grant funds of $42,133.08 that can be used for salary and retention efforts. She asked to be placed on next week’s agenda to present the budget in SharePoint.
Next steps: Snyder will present the WIC budget and coordinate submitting detailed grant budgets and documentation to county staff; commissioners asked that her budget paperwork be added to SharePoint ahead of the next meeting.
