DeKalb elections board authorizes special elections, referenda calls for November

The DeKalb County Board of Registration and Elections voted July 8 to call special elections in November for the cities of Pine Lake and Stonecrest and to call a series of referenda as directed by municipalities and school districts, including requests for an education SPLOST referendum.
Executive Director Recker Smith told the board the cities had requested the county’s assistance with special elections and that staff sought authorization to sign necessary documents to facilitate those contests. The board moved, seconded and voted unanimously to approve the special elections and grant the executive director signature authority on election-related documents.
Board members asked for clarifications about precincts involved in the City of Tucker call; staff confirmed only the Midvale Road precinct will be involved for that item.
The authorization allows staff to prepare logistical and legal paperwork required to administer the special elections and referenda on the November ballot. The board’s vote was unanimous.
