Contractor reports completion of New Searls switchboard; committee asks for energy-cost follow-up

Harvey Construction told the joint special School Building Committee on March 26 that work to replace the original switchboard at New Searls is finished and operational.
"This is the new switchboard...it's all complete. Everything is up and running, and everything is active," said Mike Space, assistant project manager with Harvey Construction, as he reviewed photos of the old switchgear and the new installation. Space described the new low-voltage transformer and panel boards that distribute electricity to lights and equipment and pointed out circuit breakers and internal components shown in the photos.
Committee members asked about expected energy savings from the upgrade. Space said he could not provide a precise savings calculation at the meeting but noted the building now has "newer lights" and upgraded systems so "you're definitely going to see a savings." Member Heather Raymond asked that Mr. Smith provide a finance update in a couple of months to show whether electricity costs change as a result of the upgrade; Mr. Smith agreed to do so.
The presentation concluded with no further questions and the committee moved on to other agenda items.
