Board approves phased shared IT services with City of Nashua; staff concerns noted

The Nashua School District board voted March 2 to approve a recommendation to pursue shared IT services with the City of Nashua. Administration outlined a phased approach: phase 1 consolidates leadership roles to eliminate duplicative administrative overhead; phase 2 calls for a comprehensive assessment of staffing models, infrastructure and procurement practices.
Superintendent Dr. Andrade said the initiative aims to preserve classroom instructional support while finding efficiencies in back-office functions. "This approach reflects our commitment to responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources and governmental collaboration," he said.
Board members thanked IT staff for their work and acknowledged anxiety about what consolidation might mean for individual employees. One board member said the proposal is not a reflection on job performance but a search for efficiency; another urged sensitivity to the "uncertainty of what this means for them." The item will also be presented to the Board of Aldermen as it moves forward.
The board approved the recommendation by voice vote. Separately, the board approved a staff recommendation to purchase an MT Trackless sidewalk machine for $195,005 funded from the City FY26 capital equipment reserve (the SURF account); district staff described the equipment as a sidewalk-clearing machine that supports high-school campuses and surrounding sidewalks.
