Nashua School Board forwards $144.48 million FY27 budget (6% increase) to Board of Aldermen

The Nashua School District Board of Education voted at a special meeting to forward its proposed fiscal year 2027 budget — $144,481,666 (without benefits), a 6% increase from FY26 — to the Board of Aldermen for budget committee review and public hearing.

Chair Miss Lamphere moved to send the approved budget to the Board of Aldermen and the motion was approved by voice after roll call established a quorum. The chair said the packet needs to be on the city’s desk by the 13th and described the typical timeline: Aldermen budget committee review, a public hearing, then a full Aldermen vote, with a likely outcome reported back to the school board in roughly six to eight weeks.

Board members discussed logistics for the Aldermen review and asked administration to include Aldermen meeting dates in the board’s Friday email to help members attend hearings. The chair said she typically attends the budget committee meetings and the public hearing and invited other board members to join.

No substantive amendments to the spending totals were made at the special session; the action was procedural — forwarding the board-approved budget package to the city’s review process. The chair closed by confirming the next routinely scheduled Wednesday meeting was canceled and the board adjourned.

Next steps: the Board of Aldermen’s budget committee will schedule its review and public hearing; the school board expects to hear back in several weeks about approval or further changes.
