The Finance and Operations Committee approved a three‑year contract for athletic training services for Nashua High School North and South at its March 16 meeting.
Staff presented the contract recommendation, saying the district opted for continued contracted services after a prior RFP and a cost comparison that showed hiring trainers in‑house would have cost about $100,000–$150,000 per position. "Year 1 would be 120,000. Year 2 of the contract would be 124,200, and then year 3 of this contract would be $128,005.50," the staff member said.
The staff member said the vendor has provided two trainers covering both high schools, that the service has been satisfactory over the last two years and that the athletic department budgets for the contract within its contract services line. Committee members asked about on‑site hours and whether trainers split time between district duties and vendor work; staff said trainers generally work afternoons and evenings and that they typically work a 35–40 hour week and will be on site for practices and games.
The chair moved to approve the contract, stating the contract amounts and that the costs would be charged to the athletic department's contract services operating account. The committee voted and the motion passed.
The committee did not change the district's procurement approach in this action; staff said it will continue monitoring contract services and present forecasting updates in April.
