Town board reviews Thomas Avenue sidewalk project, RRFB crosswalk and stormwater coalition agreement with Monroe County

Town public works staff (Erin, speaker 9) briefed the board on several transportation and drainage initiatives that require intermunicipal agreements with Monroe County.
Erin said Monroe County will install sidewalks on Thomas Avenue as part of its road project, after which the sidewalks will be town-owned; the town will contribute a 50% cost match. "So we will be splitting the cost of the sidewalk construction," Erin said. Design work is nearing completion and construction is expected during the next spring construction season.
On pedestrian safety, Erin described a planned rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) at a crosswalk near the school on Thomas Avenue. The beacon, which drivers see from a long distance when activated, is intended to alert motorists when pedestrians push the crosswalk button. Erin noted the town must contribute to ongoing software/maintenance costs under the intermunicipal agreement.
Erin also explained renewing the town’s intermunicipal agreement to continue participation in the Monroe County Stormwater Coalition, which coordinates permit compliance and countywide public education about stormwater control measures.
Board members asked about timing and community outreach; Erin said the county held an open house previously and intends another before construction. Several members welcomed design changes that preserved more trees than originally planned.
