County engineer reports culvert replacements, chip-seal permit and courthouse roof schedule

Ringgold County Engineer reported recent culvert replacements, chip-rock stockpiling for a J55 chip-seal project that requires an IDOT permit and PCN mitigation, and contractor plans to begin courthouse roof work July 13.
Ringgold County Engineer Jared Johnson updated the Board of Supervisors July 6 on secondary roads and infrastructure projects, including completed culvert replacements, ongoing pothole repairs and preparations for an upcoming chip-seal project on J55.
Johnson said crews replaced deteriorated corrugated-metal culverts with ADS culverts under W.O. 1447 (48-inch), W.O. 1473 (36-inch) and W.O. 1474 (24-inch) along J55 between 110th and 135th Avenues and that chip rock has been hauled and stockpiled for a scheduled seal-coat operation. Crews were mowing vegetation along paved roadsides and Farm-to-Market gravel roads in the county’s southwestern portion and spraying primary noxious weeds.
For the J55 chip-seal project from P14 to US HWY 169, staff obtained an IDOT right-of-way permit. Johnson said a Pre-Construction Notice (PCN) will be required because the project received an "may affect - not likely to adversely affect" ESA classification and will impact more than 0.03 acres of stream bed; mitigation-credit quotes are being gathered from mitigation banks in the service area.
Johnson described recent bridge work that included setting stringers and deck panels, forming pier caps and finishing interior-span deck panels; upcoming tasks include installing falsework and guardrail anchor assemblies and tying reinforcing steel. Dormark was contacted to prepare to tie deck steel.
Vic Reicks of Stronghouse Solutions reported courthouse roof work is scheduled to begin July 13 and is expected to take roughly three to four days; he is coordinating with West Plumbing on HVAC line relocations and with the city on necessary road closures. Reicks also said a contractor will address a minor roof-to-wall transition issue at the sheriff's office and that, if additional water intrusion occurs, it is likely to be at expansion joints; he has discussed potential corrective measures with Sheriff Hatey.
The board also tabled approval of claims, approved the meeting minutes and adjourned later in the afternoon.
