The Village Council reviewed an intersection safety study and responded to resident requests for traffic calming on the 3600 block of Husted.
Village Manager Dana Peterson told the Council the safety study was distributed to all 11 County Councilmembers, District 18 delegates and the State Senator, the County Executive, the State Highway Administration (SHA), MCDOT, and local civic groups. The Council noted positive initial feedback, including an invitation from County Councilmember Kate Stewart to convene a meeting with SHA and county transportation officials.
Residents speaking about the 3600 block of Husted reported widespread stop‑sign noncompliance and speeding in an area with about 15 children under age 13, and many dog walkers. They proposed short‑term measures such as road narrowing, painted cross‑hatching and LED lights, and discussed longer‑term options including adding sidewalks. The Village Manager said she will reach out to neighboring municipalities that have addressed similar problems to identify qualified contractors to help the Council evaluate options.
There was no formal vote on specific traffic calming measures at the April 21 meeting; the Council directed staff to pursue further study and coordination with county and state officials.
