Loma Linda trustees swear in members and approve multiple ordinances, nepotism policy passes 4–1
Summary
At its April 8 meeting, the Town of Loma Linda Board of Trustees re-swore trustees, re-elected James Childers as chair and approved several local ordinances, including a nepotism policy that passed by a 4–1 vote after trustee Bruce Anderson opposed both readings.
James Childers was sworn in with other re-elected trustees and was re-elected chairman of the Town of Loma Linda Board of Trustees on April 8, 2025. Aaron Hamilton nominated Childers, Tyler Ehrhart seconded, and the board approved the nomination.
The trustees advanced a package of ordinances after first and second readings. The South Loma Linda Estates Land Use Ordinance, Floodplain Management Ordinance (updated to reflect administrator changes), the Comprehensive Development Plan Ordinance and updates to the IBC/IRC Building Code Ordinance each received motions for first and second readings and were recorded as approved by the board.
An ordinance updating term limits for the Board of Trustees also passed both readings unanimously. By contrast, an ordinance addressing nepotism for board members and subcommittees drew one trustee’s opposition: Aaron Hamilton moved the first reading (seconded by Tyler Ehrhart) and the motion passed 4 Ayes, 1 Nay with Bruce Anderson opposed; the second reading (moved by Aaron Hamilton and seconded by Barbara Hutchison) again passed 4 Ayes, 1 Nay with Anderson opposed.
The minutes record that the ordinances received the required readings and majority approvals. The board’s actions change local land-use, floodplain, development-plan and building-code rules as documented in the minutes and adopt a new nepotism rule for board members and subcommittees. The minutes do not include ordinance text in full; the board indicated the ordinances were updated "as discussed" and recorded motions and vote totals for each reading.
The board signed the minutes and the meeting record notes the actions to be posted, with revised minutes to be re-posted where corrections were made.
