Village outlines Arbor Day plans and considers expanded tree-stewardship role for residents

The Village of North Chevy Chase plans an Arbor Day/Earth Day celebration for May 2 that will include a ceremonial tree planting, a tree walk with the Village arborist, native-plant purchases from Nature by Design, informational tables from Nature Forward and Compost Crew, children's activities and volunteer sign-ups.
Environment Committee member Jane Houlihan presented a written proposal, submitted the previous day, asking for an expanded tree stewardship role for the committee. The Council did not take immediate action on the proposal and requested additional time to review the proposal and consult neighboring municipalities that have established resident advisory committees for tree stewardship.
Village Manager Dana Peterson said the Village should provide a species list to Stadler Nursery by the week of April 6 or early the week of April 13 to align plant inventory with the May 2 ceremonial planting.
