Council reviews DRI/LPC timeline, audit start and approves summer–winter events

At the Jamestown City Council work session, leaders gave updates about planning, finance and the community events calendar.
President Brackman (S3) said the state team recently visited downtown as part of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) review and the city has set up a local planning committee (LPC) of state officers, agencies, stakeholders and the consultant team. He said the LPC will meet weekly and public LPC meetings will likely be held at night; the city is aiming for an LPC kickoff meeting by the end of the month.
On finance, the clerk/official (S2) reported that Director Malenki has started the 2025 audit and will be on-site for the next three weeks. The clerk provided preliminary sales-tax observations, saying April was about 5% higher than last year and May about 14% higher, though he cautioned that June could normalize the quarter.
Council members also approved a slate of special events: National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, at Bergman Park (4–8 p.m.); a comedy festival Aug. 6–9; a meet-and-greet event Aug. 14; a Labor Day celebration Sept. 6 at Urban Park; and a Dec. 5 holiday parade. Departments will coordinate vendor and organization tables for outreach.
No formal action was announced on planning boundaries or DRI approvals; next steps include LPC scheduling, continued audit work and follow-up on event logistics.
