Commissioner asks to make opioid abatement committee a standing committee

Commissioner Mary Junot told the commission she would like the county’s opioid abatement group — currently operating as an ad hoc committee — to be established as a standing committee so it can finish pending funding work and continue oversight as long as funds remain available.
“My name is Mary Junot, and I live at 1100 Hawthorne Road. I'm here to talk to you about the opioid abatement committee,” Junot said during public recognition. She said the group has more work to do, needs to wrap up funding and applications through August, and would provide a clean slate for the next commission if made permanent.
Junot emphasized the committee’s ongoing workload and asked commissioners to consider members who might wish to continue serving. She also requested a status update on the finance director position following recent meet-and-greet events that were canceled.
No formal motion to convert the committee was recorded during the open meeting; Junot’s request was placed in the public comment record for future consideration by the commission.
