Onancock council passes procedural motions, approves fence and adopts Special Use Permit

The Onancock Town Council voted on several procedural and permit matters at its Oct. 15 special meeting.
Councilmember Paul Weitzel moved to change the regular November meeting date from Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, to Monday, Nov. 18, 2024; Councilmember Maphis Oswald seconded and the motion passed on a 5–0 roll call. Councilmember Cindy Holdren moved to adopt a Special Use Permit ordinance with changes; Councilmember Oswald seconded and the measure carried on a 5–0 roll call. Later in the meeting Councilmember Oswald moved to approve a fence quote from Accomack Fence (Oak Tree); Councilmember Weitzel seconded and the motion carried 5–0.
A resident offered to donate up to $5,000 for the planting of at least two sidewalk trees; town staff said the parking‑lot committee and the Tree Board would be consulted about placement. Councilmember Oswald moved to adjourn; Councilmember Sarah Nock seconded and the meeting was adjourned following a unanimous vote.
No formal votes on borrowing or loan approval were recorded at the meeting; the council instructed staff to obtain full engineering assessments to inform any future loan decisions.
