Onancock to amend ordinances to allow HRSD to operate sewer collection system; joint hearing set Oct. 28

Town Manager Matt Spuck explained that several ordinance and zoning changes are required so that HRSD can properly operate the collection portion of the sewer system. He said the immediate step is to adopt ordinances that set the layout for a future resolution; the Planning Commission will review the resolution and council will hold a joint public hearing on Oct. 28, 2024.
Why it matters: allowing a regional sewer authority to operate the collection system can change operational responsibility and liability for collection infrastructure and may require alignment of local zoning and ordinance language.
What the council did: the council approved starting the ordinance-change process and scheduled a joint public hearing with the Planning Commission for Oct. 28, 2024.
