Planning Commission elects Harry Wine chairman; updates given on Route 211 sidewalk and water tank projects

At its Jan. 5 meeting the New Market Planning Commission completed routine business, including officer selection and project updates.
Tom Linski nominated Harry Wine for chairman, Sherri Erbaugh for vice-chairman and Amber Smoot as secretary; Sonny Mongold seconded and the nomination passed on a unanimous 5-0 voice vote. Wine thanked outgoing chairman Larry Hale, who said he enjoyed his time as chairman.
In old-business updates, Mrs. Medina reported that zoning permits were approved for a deck at 124 Tyler Drive and provided the Route 211 Sidewalk Project schedule: pre-bid meeting Jan. 8, questions due Jan. 28, bids due and opened Jan. 30, 2026. Mr. Garrison reported the Water Tank Project was awarded to Lantz of Winchester to build a new 500,000-gallon storage tank, improve the access road and the connecting water main; work is expected to start in coming months and the town plans to later contract rehabilitation of the existing tank.
With no further business, the commission adjourned at 7:36 p.m. on a unanimous 5-0 voice vote.
