Hillsdale council approves street and trail contracts, extends NEZ certificates

Council members then approved construction contracts for street and trail work. The Arch Avenue reconstruction contract was awarded to Parrish Excavating for a base bid of $314,907.50 with a $63,000 contingency for a total of $377,907.50. The South Street reconstruction contract and the Oak (Oat) Street reconstruction contract were awarded to Excell Paving for base bids of $319,071.55 (plus $48,000 contingency, total $367,071.55) and $337,482.18 (plus $51,622 contingency, total $388,104.18), respectively. The Baw Beese Trail construction contract was awarded to Thompson Asphalt for $29,715.60 with a contingency of $20,284.40, yielding a total project cost of $50,000. All construction awards passed on 9-0 roll-call votes.
The consent agenda — which included City and BPU claims of $930,112.83, payroll of $213,632.24, meeting minutes, committee minutes, and Hillsdale College noise-variance requests — was approved unanimously at the start of the meeting.
Mayor Scott Sessions also read a proclamation recognizing the 57th Annual Professional Municipal Clerk's Week and thanked City Clerk Katy Price for her service. The council adjourned at 8:53 p.m.
