Town panel certifies Katrina Greer to run in June 16 commission election; discusses disclosure forms and absentee ballot process

At a May 1 meeting, the town panel certified Katrina Greer to run in the June 16 town commission election and asked those present to sign paperwork confirming her candidacy.

The chair opened the certification and called for a voice vote, saying, "All in favor, and then I'll have you sign this, for Katrina Greer to run, on June 16 for town commission." After attendees responded in the affirmative, the chair declared the vote unanimous and directed participants to initial the certification forms.

Committee member (S2) asked what criteria the panel applies when certifying a candidate, saying, "In order to certify, we would normally have to know that they are a resident, that they are what are the criteria for certification?" The chair replied that the requirements are residency-based: "Full time resident... Primary resident... Lives here," and said that, at the moment, those are the only requirements the panel enforces for certification.

The chair also told the panel that the town's ethics panel is drafting financial disclosure forms for candidates and current committee and board members. As the chair put it, the ethics panel "is working on a financial disclosure form, or forms, which candidates and current people that serve on committees and boards" would complete. A staff member added that there will be examples and different lengths of forms: "A short form and a long short form for volunteer boards, historic things, and then a longer form for the elected."

Panel members discussed logistical next steps. The chair asked everyone to initial the certification paperwork and said the panel will meet on the 18th to address absentee ballot procedures, "even if there is not another candidate." The chair noted that certifying absentee ballots requires two people to certify them: "when we have to certify those absentee ballots, it's 2 of us that need to certify. I can't do it on my own." She also raised a brief concern about the local post office schedule but did not indicate an immediate solution.

With paperwork signed and scheduling in place, the chair moved to adjourn; attendees voiced assent and the meeting ended.
