Administrators report fewer behavior incidents, propose $4-per-student concussion test and discuss referendum drafts

District administrators told the New Auburn School Board on Dec. 16 that they are preparing several operational changes and planning next steps on a potential referendum.
Athletic Director Karson Rihn said conference realignment is underway for fall and winter sports and will delay scheduling. Rihn also said the district plans to use S.W.A.Y., an app-based concussion-testing platform, at roughly $4 per student.
Elementary and middle-school Principal Kayla Westrich reported that behavior incidents are down compared with the previous school year, estimating about 30–40 incidents in 2023–24 versus about 15–20 so far in 2024–25.
Superintendent/HS Principal Jim Reif outlined updates to sex-offender notification procedures: staff will be notified under the revised process now, and next fall teachers who would be directly affected by any placement will be notified prior to the start of the year. Reif also said Alexandria Iverson stepped down from part-time office help and will remain on the substitute pool.
Reif presented drafts of possible referendum questions and solicited board feedback for final questions to be voted on in January. He also noted a 27-acre land lease that will be posted for bids next spring. The board scheduled a referendum work session for early January and set the next regular meeting for Jan. 13, 2025.
No board votes were recorded on these administrative items during the open session; the meeting moved to a closed session later for a superintendent evaluation and reconvened with no action taken.
