New Auburn board hires paraprofessional and custodian, accepts three resignations; referendum discussion continues

During the School District of New Auburn’s regular board meeting on Aug. 26, 2024 the board approved two hirings and accepted three resignations.
The board approved the hiring of Jennifer Olson as a paraprofessional and James Tomes as a custodian; the motions were moved by Shannon Berg and seconded by Michelle Rayburn and are recorded in the minutes as carried 4-0. The board accepted resignations from Keenan Dahl (varsity basketball coach), Elizabeth Cruse (5th grade teacher) and Stephanie Solberg (band/choral director); that motion also carried 4-0.
Board members discussed placing an operational referendum on the November ballot but made no motion; the minutes state the board will continue to examine options. Administrative reports noted operational items and student-support needs: Athletic Director Karson Rihn reported fall schedules, field-painting and uniform work; PreK–8 Principal Kayla Westrich reported increasing special-education numbers and growing needs among English-language learners; and District Administrator Jim Reif summarized staff inservice topics including AI training provided by CESA 10, Act 20 training, mandated reporting and Title IX, and the year’s theme “Together Trojans Growing Stronger.”
The board set the next regular meeting for Sept. 18, 2024 at 5:30 P.M. and adjourned at 6:50 P.M.
