New Auburn board approves hires, activity-fund changes, calendar and reinstates Frozen Trojans

The School District of New Auburn School Board approved a slate of routine personnel, budget and extracurricular actions at its Jan. 13, 2025 meeting.
The board voted 5-0 (after Shannon Berg’s arrival) to approve hires for two part-time paraprofessionals — Riley Steuernagel (4K) and Shae Bailey (high school) — and to accept the resignation of Austin Rayburn as varsity baseball coach. The board also approved open enrollment options for the 2025–26 school year and adopted the proposed 2025–26 school calendar.
On school activity funds the board approved several reorganizations: combining PBIS and the 4th-grade fund into a single Elementary Fund; creating a SALT (School Athlete Leadership Team) fund; renaming the middle-school Student Council to "Raise Your Voice"; and renaming Employability Skills to the Mentor Program. Minutes show those motions carried 5-0.
The board also approved reinstating the Frozen Trojans ice-fishing team. Earlier in the meeting the board approved December receipts of $178,378.73 and December bills of $330,940.03 (both motions carried 4-0). Several administrative reports followed, including an athletics update from Athletic Director Karson Rihn and a behavioral report from Principal Kayla Westrich noting nine behavior incidents involving eight students in January.
The meeting adjourned at 5:48 p.m.; the next regular meeting is set for Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
