New Auburn board approves multiple hires, resignations and Chromebook purchase; donations accepted

The New Auburn School District board on May 19 approved a slate of personnel actions, several policy steps and technology purchases in a meeting that ran roughly 57 minutes.
The board unanimously hired Scott Nelson as a reading specialist; Karla Lara as an art teacher; Kayla Schultz as a first-grade teacher; Kezia Blake as kindergarten teacher; and summer custodians Chantoya Vold, Collin Vold, Mitchell Quinn and Emma O'Brien. The board also accepted resignations from Madison Nathe, Erin Plummer, Rachel Markquart, Corey Miller and Administrator/HS Principal Jim Reif. President Louise Cody moved the hires and resignations; several motions were seconded; all votes carried 5-0.
Board members accepted donations from Janet Allison and an anonymous donor to purchase a portable sound system and fund scholarships. The board also authorized a technology purchase for classroom use: 40 student Chromebooks from Citizens Connected, 10 teacher Chromebooks from Krista Computer, and four electric carts to store and charge devices. The Chromebook purchase was approved by unanimous vote.
Financial and procedural items moved without substantive debate: the board approved the meeting agenda, accepted prior minutes (including an amendment to note the acceptance of Principal Reif’s resignation per the resignation agreement), approved the record of receipts and voted to pay the bills. Administrator/HS Principal Jim Reif reported that final tax revenue for the district is expected around August.
In administrative reports, Reif noted graduation is scheduled for May 24 at 7:00 p.m., summer school will run June 2–13, and the district’s social media reach is roughly 5,500 people per month. Reif also said families were refunded a total of $242 after ordered football clothing from Small Town Custom Apparel was not received; the district will pursue reimbursement from the vendor.
