Milltown board approves debit cards, bank 'positive pay', logging exemption and donation sign; maintenance worker pay increased

The board also approved issuing debit/credit cards with a $2,000 limit to two employees—maintenance staff Frank Rau and Clerk Cheryl Kloehn—under the town's credit card policy. Half Moon donation sign: Although public commenter J. Gary Lilyquist urged the board not to install a donation box at the Half Moon boat landing citing theft risk and low donations, Mike McMahon (speaking for absent organizer Ellen Butler) presented a 6-by-4-foot draft sign for the Half Moon Lake District. The board approved the sign with a requested change to display the word DONATION prominently across the top to make clear it is not a launch fee.
Logging exemption: Resident Russ Carlson asked permission to remove downed pine trees on 220th Ave; the board granted an exemption from the posted-road restriction while asking operators to take care to protect township roads.
Personnel action: After two closed sessions—one under Wis. Stat. 19.85(1)(e) for negotiations on a Town Shop addition and one under Wis. Stat. 19.85(1)(c) for an employment review—the board reconvened and approved a compensation change for maintenance worker Jeff Vollrath. The minutes record an on-call increase from $350 to $450 every two weeks and an hourly wage increase from $25.00 to $28.25 effective Aug. 18, 2025.
