Milltown residents press board for design changes to Antler Lake landing project

Doug Bergstrom told the Town of Milltown board on June 9 that the town attorney’s construction contract template has been prepared for contractors to review before bidding and that he is obtaining at least two quotes for the Antler Lake boat-landing project. Bergstrom said he is coordinating with a Polk County engineer on a plan that would include an ADA-compliant parking space on the southeast corner of the landing about 20–30 feet from the lake, with grade work kept below a 5% slope so ramps are not required.
Resident Michelle Bergh expressed concerns about the current plan’s proximity to her accessory building and house and the proposed removal of trees. She said the plan would cut an 18-foot section five feet from her accessory building and 15 feet from her home and include removal of old oak and pine trees and 18 feet of asphalt within 20 feet of the water. The board agreed to hold a special, on-site meeting at Antler Lake with Bergstrom, Clerk Michelle Bergh (participant in discussion), J. Gary Lilyquist and any other concerned citizens after the new drawings are completed so the plan can be reviewed in place.
The board also reviewed a project-management agreement for Bergstrom to assist with construction services tied to awarded grants; no final contract award or construction contract was executed at the meeting. Separately, the board approved a corrected Carlson Construction change order (004 dated May 9, 2025) in the amount of $3,020.41.
Why it matters: the Antler Lake landing work affects shoreline character, public access and nearby property owners. The board scheduled an on-site review to consider alternatives before final design or contractor selection.
