Osage Beach aldermen approve closed session on personnel matter

The Osage Beach Board of Aldermen voted to enter a closed session under RSMo. §610.021(3) to discuss hiring, firing or disciplining a particular employee, the chair said.

The chair opened the public portion of the meeting by calling for roll call and then stating that the agenda included "a roll call vote to close the meeting as allowed by RSMo. §610.021(3)," which authorizes closed deliberations on certain personnel matters. The chair then asked for a motion, saying, "I need a motion to adjourn," and moved "to go into closed session." The chair asked for a second and named Alderman Collins as the seconder.

After an initial voice vote — the chair asked, "All those in favor?" and some members responded aloud — Alderman George questioned whether a roll call was required. The chair confirmed that a roll call would be taken. The clerk then called members by title; affirmative responses were recorded for Aldermen Hoffman, McKay, Rucker, Collins and George. The roll call produced five recorded "yes" votes on the motion to enter closed session.

The motion to move into closed session therefore carried on the recorded roll call. The public portion of the meeting concluded with a brief exchange about logistics (turning off recording devices and notes) as officials prepared to proceed with the closed session.
