Nelson Selectmen approve consent items including budget request, permits, road salt and equipment sale

The Town of Nelson Selectmen on Aug. 7 approved a package of routine consent items and purchases during a meeting called to order at 3:10 PM.
Selectman Michael Blaudschun moved, and Chair Brenna Kucinski seconded, to approve the July 24 meeting minutes; the manifests for July 31 and Aug. 7; a building permit for T. Murray and L. Cates to add solar panels to an existing array; and an Intent to Cut for M. Collins on Old Stoddard Road. Each of these motions carried, 3‑0.
The board approved a 2025 budget funding request of $1,850 for the Monadnock Child Advocacy Center — the same amount provided in 2024. On the Road Agent’s recommendation, the board approved a road‑salt bid at $83.00 per ton with an anticipated need of 400 tons for the coming season.
Chair Kucinski moved to accept Decatur Heating’s bid of $920 to remove and dispose of the library’s old HVAC system; the motion carried, 3‑0. The board also approved the purchase and installation of a Mitsubishi wall cooling unit for the Police Office under a Decatur Heating bid of $3,085.
The board voted to permit manifest release approvals via email during weeks without a Selectmen meeting, with any such approvals recorded formally at the next regular meeting. It also approved a sealed‑bid sale of surplus town equipment — including an open trailer, a water tank trailer and an Ingersoll Rand industrial air compressor.
Selectman Blaudschun reported that the town‑owned Civil War monument on Church property needs professional cleaning; he said he will seek bids from Keene Monument and a Peterborough company and suggested the Church might organize fundraising for a garden around the monument. With no further business, the board adjourned at 3:55 PM. The next regular meeting is Aug. 21, 2024 at 3:00 PM.
