The Lamson Farm Commission voted April 3 to accept a security-services bid from PROtek Alarm Technologies after reporting ongoing alarm-panel problems with the existing vendor, B&S Security Systems.
Frank Oudheusden, the commission's treasurer, told members that the B&S system provides burglary and fire detection in the house and fire detection in the barn but only monitors alarms when they go off and had signaled a persistent control-panel fault. B&S’s listed cost was $1,152 per year, and commissioners were told B&S would charge $95 for a site visit plus $150 per hour for repairs. PROtek was described in the discussion as a Mont Vernon–based company already servicing other town buildings; commissioners said PROtek’s service includes verifying the system is working every 24 hours and that its annual contract would run about $400 more than B&S.
Tom Wahle moved to accept the PROtek bid; Frank Oudheusden seconded the motion and "all were in favor," according to the meeting minutes. The commission named Wayne Sleeper as the liaison to PROtek, and Wayne Sleeper will cancel B&S Security Systems service.
The decision follows commissioners’ emphasis on ensuring the on-site alarm system is actively checked for proper operation rather than only monitored when alarms occur. The minutes do not record individual roll-call votes or a formal tally beyond noting unanimous approval.
The commission did not record a start date for PROtek’s service in the minutes; details on contract execution and any warranty or service-level terms were not specified.
