At its April 20, 2026 meeting the North Cape School District Board of Education voted to award the district’s multi-area parking‑lot project to Asphalt Contractors and directed staff to coordinate the work with a projected early‑summer roof replacement.
Harvey Kandler presented three bids for the parking‑lot work (Asphalt Contractors, Merit Asphalt, and Suburban Asphalt), describing options by area, including a proposed 20 x 20 concrete pad for the dumpsters. Merit’s proposal included an additional French‑drain option; Asphalt Contractors submitted the lowest full‑scope price for completing all identified areas. Kandler noted the district’s recent playground work is holding up well and recommended Asphalt Contractors if the board elected to do all areas.
President Dan Hying moved to approve Asphalt Contractors for the full‑scope parking work; Ryan Menken seconded. Hying said proceeding with all areas “would not put us in a big financial negative.” There was no further discussion; the board voted “all in favor,” and the motion carried.
Kandler told the board the roofing project will require some rooftop items to be removed before replacement and that All Pro will handle that work. The roofing timeline was described as “early summer,” and Kandler said he will coordinate scheduling so the two projects have ample space and minimize conflicts.
Next steps: contracting and scheduling with Asphalt Contractors and All Pro, with coordination overseen by district staff. No dollar amounts or specific start dates were provided at the meeting.
